Objectives
To develop a masterplan to seamlessly integrate
sites (coastal and inland) into the fabric of Whitley
Bay, whilst providing the opportunity for further
development at a later date.
To look at the feasibility of a joint services centre and
the refurbishment and redevelopment of the Grade11
Listed Spanish City buildings and adjoining sites into a
mixed use residential/arts and media centre.
Our View
Development of the residential sites could maximise
land values and incorporate materials and details from
adjacent sites to give a continued sense of place.We
felt the project required a mix of design and value.
Through an existing relationship with North Tyneside
Council, the Conservation and Planning Authorities,
English Heritage and North East Civic Trust, we were
able to advise the client on the development of the
brief for Spanish City.
The Results
Following the success of the public presentation,
Pozzoni Design Group are proceeding with the
planning and implementation of all aspects of this
