Co Housing ideas

Co-Housing, a platform for the future?

28 July 2011

Last week we shared our ideas at a unique event in Cornwall which explored the concept of like-minded people living together following retirement, also known as co-housing. The event was hosted by Cornwall Care, the county’s largest provider of care for older people.

The workshop which was led by the Bishop of Truro, explored how care providers and designers could best help people achieve their aims and ambitions for an active life in their mature years, sharing their experiences and lives with others.

Douglas Webb, Chief Executive of Cornwall Care said “The idea of this one-off event was to consider the concept of people living and enjoying life together – whatever their interests may be. We realise it’s experimental, but we wanted to highlight this exciting new concept for Cornwall’.

Over 50 people attended the event, held at the Hall for Cornwall in Truro. A range of attendees including the public, local authority and care providers were actively encouraged to share their views, ideas and creativity.

Cornwall Care will be collating their findings from this event with a view to developing co-housing projects in Cornwall.
