Annual Greener Travel to Work Challenge
12 July 2011
On Thursday 21st July 2011 we will be running our annual Greener Travel to Work day. All staff are encouraged to do what they can to reduce the impact of their daily commute. This can be car sharing, cycling, walking, taking the train, and hopefully discovering it isn't much harder than the usual mode of transport whilst being encouraged to do it again on another day, and try other alternative, greener modes of transport more frequently.
This years sweepstake is to guess the time it will take our 3D visualiser Greg to run to work from his home in Lymm (approximately 8 miles). Last year we guessed Partner Damians run to work and what mode of transport would be quicker over the same distance.
At lunchtime there is to be a fair trade feast involving local produce for people to try (from Altrincham market/local farm shops etc), with the encouragement to buy locally, support local communities, and consider what we are buying in our usual weekly shop. Excitingly there will be beer from the local Dunham Massey Brewery to participate in…
Finishing off with a prize giving for initiatives such as the most employees in one car (legally of course!), we also have a prize for year round green commuting, won last year by Rob Lockhart for his cycling.
Whilst the day will be some fun for the staff it also has a serious message, and shows our continued practical commitment to being a sustainable and environmentally responsible practice.
