We've been shortlisted for RIBA Award 2012 in the North West
27 March 2012
Our work on the new sixth form building for Blessed Thomas Holford Catholic College in Altrincham, Manchester has been shortlisted in the RIBA Awards 2012 in the North West.
RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) Awards have been running continuously since 1966 and are judged and presented locally. No matter the shape, size, budget or location, RIBA Award winning-schemes set the standard for great architecture all across the country.
Our design reinforces the College’s reputation as a top educational establishment and symbolically reinforces the modern, welcoming and creative culture. The building is striking yet functional and provides a mature and entrepreneurial environment for its students that will withstand the rigours of modern education with the flexibility to react to changing learning methods.
The interior is characterised by light and space. The creative use of glass provides a spacious and bright feel to the building.
Head Teacher John Cornally states "Our school community is absolutely delighted with our new Sixth Form building. It is a result of the excellent co-operation between all the partners involved in the project.
The school feels that its original design aspirations have been completely realised; the building is the most striking Sixth Form facility in the Greater Manchester area. It has truly transformed our school, visually and educationally and accurately reflects our school motto: Aspirational - Exceptional - Outstanding. The end users - students and staff - are delighted with their new surroundings."
