Poynton High School, Poynton, Cheshire

Poynton High School is an existing 1600 pupil high school with sixth form in the town of Poynton, Cheshire.

The £3.15m project is currently under construction on site and will provide a new Sixth Form building with 10 seminar rooms, 2 ICT rooms and sixth form social and study areas.

The new building will be located on part of the existing playground, as there is sufficient external play area within the school ground to meet Building Bulletin 98 requirements.

The project will deliver a new building which:

  • Provides a more 'mature' environment for the school's sixth form pupils
  • Provides appropriately sized seminar rooms with storage and good levels of light, natural ventilation and controlled temperature
  • Provides an entrance to improve flow of pedestrian traffic and provide display space
  • Provides generous circulation spaces
  • Has staff areas located to maximise supervision of internal and external areas
  • Is an Environmentally friendly building, which is economical to operate and maintain.

The design solution is simple, robust and affordable. The building has a simple palette of materials in brick, glazed curtain walling and metal cladding.

The project is being delivered within the North West Construction Hub framework with Kier, on behalf of Cheshire East Borough Council.
