Mayfield, Manchester
This was a challenging project from the outset, as the site for the new building was set within the heart of fa Conservation Area, and required the demolition of a dilapidated yet Grade II Listed building. Equally, the College had limited experience of construction projects and so effective communication with all parties was paramount to the success of the building.
Early and regular workshop meetings and discussions were held with the College and its end users to establish the brief and really understand what the College wanted to get out of its new facilities. In tandem with this exercise, we had numerous pre application discussions with the Local Authority to ensure that the new build was of a quality of design which responded to the existing neighbouring buildings within the Conservation Area.
As a result of the regular workshop meetings and discussions, excellent working relationships were formed across the team, and we worked together to achieve the aims and objectives of all.
The finished building was completed ahead of programme and within budget - and it has delighted everyone who has seen it and used it, including the students!
The building provides a mix of general teaching classrooms, IT suites and LRC in the building and science laboratories over three floors.
