Queens Park Leisure Centre

Pozzoni has designed this new build leisure centre, replacing an existing facility, and redefining it as a new focus of the local community.

Project
Pozzoni was commissioned to design a brand new £3.8 million scheme which involved the demolition of the existing buildings, with the exception of the Sports Hall which is a relatively modern structure. The Sports Hall has been refurbished and offers a wide range of facilities, more aligned with the contemporary leisure centre use the Council wished to achieve.

Design
The high quality and inclusive design principles employed on this scheme have been used to create a modern facility which reflects a more contemporary architectural language and, in line with its use, differentiates it from the surrounding ‘residential’ typology.

The front facade has been designed to allow maximum visual permeability into the building which in turn will raise interest and attract users by displaying the centres facilities through the use of full height glazing. Together with its high standard of finish and its rebranding and design, the centre has been redefined as a new focus central to the local community.

Sustainability
The facility has been designed to maximise energy and efficiency and where possible has sought to employ sustainable energy principles. 10% of the materials used during the build were recycled, in accordance with the council’s WRAP scheme.
